Where it came from
This publication serves as the definitive exhibition catalog for the retrospective of Carmen Calvo, one of Spain’s most significant contemporary conceptual artists. Produced by the Comunidad de Madrid to accompany her 2014 exhibition, the volume documents her long-standing practice of interrogating memory, identity, and the object through sculpture and mixed-media installation. The catalog was designed to provide a comprehensive survey of her career, capturing the tactile, often fragmented aesthetic that defines her work.
The book highlights Calvo's unique ability to repurpose found materials and archival photography, creating dialogue between historical artifacts and modern artistic expression. It features critical essays that place her evolution within the broader scope of Spanish postmodern art, reflecting her intent to challenge the viewer's perception of history. The publication was received as a essential scholarly resource for understanding the intellectual underpinnings of her multidisciplinary approach.
