Carmen Silva - Aiud via Brașov

Radu Șutu’s 'Carmen Silva - Aiud via Brașov' was published in 1996 by Editura Majadahonda, a Romanian house known for issuing works centered on historical, cultural, and biographical subjects. The book serves as a localized historical narrative, examining the life and legacy of Queen Elisabeth of Romania, who famously wrote under the pseudonym Carmen Sylva. By tracing a journey from Aiud to Brașov, the text navigates the intersections of royal biography and the topographical identity of the Romanian landscape.

The design and narrative approach reflect a post-communist effort to reclaim and reinterpret the legacy of the Romanian monarchy for a contemporary audience. Radu Șutu focused on synthesizing archival accounts with geographical storytelling to create a portrait that feels intimate yet anchored in the specific history of Transylvanian locations. Upon its release, the work was received as a scholarly contribution to the burgeoning field of Romanian royal historiography, providing readers with a curated look at the intellectual contributions of the Queen within the specific regional context of the mid-nineties revival of interest in monarchical heritage.
