Carmen Sylva

This edition of Carmen Sylva, authored by Georges Bengesco, serves as a modern archival reproduction of historical biographical material. The original work was written in the late 19th century to chronicle the life and literary contributions of Elisabeth of Wied, the Queen of Romania, who wrote under the pseudonym Carmen Sylva. The text explores her influence on Romanian culture and her prolific output as a poet, novelist, and essayist, positioning her as a central figure in European intellectual circles of the era.

The 2023 edition by Creative Media Partners is part of an ongoing effort to preserve historical texts that have entered the public domain. Bengesco, a respected bibliographer, aimed to provide a comprehensive look at the Queen's artistic identity, balancing her royal status with her genuine pursuit of literary recognition. While the original publication was intended for contemporary scholars and admirers of the Romanian court, this reprint is designed to provide today’s historians and collectors with accessible, unabridged documentation of an influential 19th-century royal portrait.
