Christa Wolf und Durs Grünbein

Published in 2021 by de Gruyter, this academic monograph by Matthias Kandziora examines the complex literary intersection between Christa Wolf, a central figure of East German literature, and Durs Grünbein, a prominent contemporary poet. The work was created within the rigorous context of the 'Gegenwartsliteratur' series, which aims to provide scholarly analysis of major German-language authors. By juxtaposing Wolf's engagement with historical memory and socialist realism against Grünbein's focus on antiquity and the European tradition, the book seeks to define how two distinct generations of writers navigate the legacy of German history.

The design and editorial approach reflect the publisher's commitment to high-level humanities discourse, presenting a structured investigation into how both authors grapple with identity and poetic form. It is intended for researchers and students of German studies, offering an analytical framework rather than a biographical narrative. As a relatively recent contribution to literary criticism, the work has been received as a focused, specialized inquiry into the continuity and ruptures of German post-war literature, maintaining the disciplined aesthetic typical of the de Gruyter academic publishing house.
