Critical and Cultural Interactionism

Critical and Cultural Interactionism was published in 2019 as part of the Routledge Advances in Sociology series. Edited by Michael Hviid Jacobsen, a prominent Danish sociologist known for his work on the history and theory of social interaction, the volume seeks to bridge the gap between classic interactionist perspectives and contemporary cultural studies. It emerged from a scholarly desire to reinvigorate the symbolic interactionist tradition by addressing the complexities of the modern digital and globalized landscape.

The book serves as a collection of essays from various contributors tasked with examining how social meanings are constructed and contested within today's multifaceted society. Jacobsen curated these contributions to emphasize a critical, rather than merely descriptive, approach to interactionism. Upon its release, the text was received by academic circles as a meaningful pedagogical and theoretical resource, intended primarily for sociology students and researchers looking to apply interactionist frameworks to modern cultural phenomena.
