De stinzen in middeleeuws Friesland en hun bewoners

Published in 2009 by Uitgeverij Verloren, this scholarly work by P. N. Noomen serves as an authoritative examination of the 'stins'—a specific type of fortified stone house found in the Frisian landscape during the Middle Ages. The book emerged from Noomen's extensive research into the intersection of medieval architecture, social stratification, and the power dynamics of Frisian landholding elites. It was produced to provide a definitive historical record of these structures, which often served as symbols of status and defensive refuge for the regional nobility.

The volume is recognized for its rigorous archival approach, utilizing primary sources and archaeological evidence to trace the evolution of the stinzen and the lineages of their inhabitants. In the academic community, Noomen's work is regarded as a primary resource for students of regional Dutch history, particularly for its ability to contextualize architectural development within the volatile sociopolitical landscape of medieval Frisia. The design of the book aligns with Verloren's standard for academic publishing, favoring a clean, text-heavy layout intended to prioritize the accessibility of complex historical data and genealogical analysis.
