Der Abtenauer Altar von Andreas Lackner

This scholarly publication focuses on the winged altar of Abtenau, a significant example of Late Gothic woodcarving located in the parish church of St. Blasius in Salzburg, Austria. Created in the early 16th century, the altar is attributed to the workshop of Andreas Lackner, a prominent sculptor whose work reflects the transition toward the stylistic complexity characteristic of the Alpine region during the late Middle Ages.

The 2011 volume published by Belvedere serves as a comprehensive art-historical survey, documenting the iconography and craftsmanship of the piece. By analyzing the structural design and the theological themes depicted in the carvings, the book provides context for the workshop's influence on regional church art. It was released as part of an effort to preserve and interpret the cultural heritage of Salzburg’s artistic landscape for contemporary researchers and enthusiasts.
