Where it came from
Published by Nomos in 2017, Die BGB-Klausur – eine Schreibwerkstatt was written by Volker Mayer to address the specific pedagogical challenges faced by German law students. The work originated from the recognition that while students often possess a strong grasp of the Bürgerliches Gesetzbuch, they frequently struggle with the structural and stylistic requirements of drafting formal legal opinions during examinations.
The book functions as a practical manual, emphasizing a workshop-style approach to legal writing. Mayer focuses on the 'Gutachtenstil' or legal opinion style, providing students with modular techniques to bridge the gap between abstract theoretical knowledge and the rigid demands of the exam hall. It has been received as a focused, technical guide intended to demystify the process of successful exam composition within the rigid framework of German civil law studies.
