Drover's secret life

Drover's Secret Life is a installment in the enduring Hank the Cowdog series, written by John R. Erickson and published in 2009. The series originated in 1983, drawing heavily from Erickson’s own experiences working as a cowboy and ranch hand in the Texas Panhandle. By the time this specific volume was released, the series had established a distinct identity characterized by its blend of rural Western humor, canine perspective, and educational insights into livestock ranching.

The design and illustration of the series have long been defined by Gerald L. Holmes, whose iconic black-and-white ink sketches have accompanied the stories since the early days. Holmes’s visual style was intended to capture the eccentricities of the ranch animals while maintaining the rustic, accessible tone of the prose. The books have been consistently well-received as reliable staples of children's literature, praised for their ability to maintain a consistent voice and charm across dozens of episodic adventures.
