Egodocumenten van Noord-Nederlanders van de zestiende tot begin negentiende eeuw

This work was compiled by R. Lindeman under the auspices of the Erasmus University Rotterdam’s Faculty of History and Arts. It serves as a scholarly survey of ego-documents—personal narratives such as diaries, journals, and memoirs—authored by individuals from the Northern Netherlands between the sixteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The publication was intended to provide researchers with a structured inventory of primary sources that capture the subjective experiences, mentalities, and daily lives of people living during a transformative era of Dutch history.

The project reflects the broader historiographical trend of the late twentieth century toward microhistory and the study of 'history from below,' where the focus shifts from grand political narratives to individual testimony. By cataloging these fragmented personal records, the collection provides a vital bibliographic map for historians looking to reconstruct the private lives and social landscapes of the early modern period. It remains a foundational reference for those specializing in Dutch archival research and the evolution of the autobiographical tradition.
