Where it came from
Published by Ediciones Polígrafa in 2000, this volume serves as a comprehensive monograph dedicated to the work of Eileen Gray, the pioneering Irish-born architect and furniture designer. It was compiled to address the late-twentieth-century resurgence of interest in Gray’s contribution to the Modernist movement, documenting her transition from lacquer work to the revolutionary tubular steel furniture designs that defined her legacy.
The book functions as both a visual archive and a critical study, featuring high-quality photography of iconic pieces like the Bibendum chair and the E-1027 table. It was produced to place her aesthetic in the broader context of twentieth-century design history, highlighting how her pursuit of comfort and functionality often diverged from the more dogmatic approaches of her contemporaries like Le Corbusier.
