Emerson in Concord

Published in 1888, Emerson in Concord was written by Edward Waldo Emerson, the youngest son of the transcendentalist philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson. The book originated from the author's desire to provide a personal, biographical account of his father's life specifically within the context of the Concord community. It serves as an intimate record of the intellectual climate and the social circle that defined the transcendentalist movement during the mid-19th century.

The text is regarded as a foundational piece of secondary literature regarding the Emerson family, blending historical fact with the perspective of someone who grew up within that inner circle. Gale Research Co. later issued this reprint as part of their efforts to preserve scarce or out-of-print biographical works from the 19th century, ensuring that Edward's detailed observations of his father's habits, correspondence, and local associations remained accessible to scholars of American literature.
