Where it came from
Evgeniy Onegin, Alexander Pushkin's magnum opus of verse, remains the cornerstone of Russian literature. By the time Bradda Books published this edition in 1954, the novel in verse had already cemented its status as a foundational text. Bradda Books, a specialty publisher based in Letchworth, England, focused heavily on Russian-language editions designed specifically for the academic and expatriate markets during the mid-20th century.
This particular 1954 printing was produced to serve the growing demand for accessible, high-quality Russian texts for students and scholars of Slavic studies. The edition followed the established tradition of printing Pushkin's original Russian text, prioritizing clarity and scholarly utility over elaborate illustration. Bradda Books became well-regarded within academic circles for their contribution to keeping classic Russian literature in print during a period when such editions were often difficult to source in the West.
