Where it came from
Published in 2000 by Edizioni Novecento, this scholarly monograph examines the architectural legacy of the Basile family, specifically the contributions of Giovan Battista Filippo and his son, Ernesto Basile. The text contextualizes their roles as central figures in the Sicilian Liberty style, tracing how their work bridged the gap between historical eclecticism and the nascent Art Nouveau movement in Italy at the turn of the 20th century.
Author Ettore Sessa provides a rigorous analysis of the design philosophies that defined the Basiles' careers, most notably their mastery of refined decoration and functional innovation. The book is widely regarded as a definitive resource for understanding the influence of the Palermo school of architecture and has been well received by historians for its detailed documentation of the family's extensive portfolio of private and public buildings.
