Gu xin xing xin biao yu ke xue shi tan suo was authored by Zezong Xi, a prominent Chinese astronomer and historian of science who served as a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Published in 2002 by Shaanxi Normal University Press, this work compiles the author's extensive scholarly inquiries into the history of astronomy and the development of scientific thought in China. The book reflects Xi's lifelong dedication to uncovering the observational records of ancient Chinese astronomers, particularly his pioneering efforts in cataloging historical supernovae and guest stars.

The collection represents the culmination of Xi's academic methodology, which emphasizes the synthesis of traditional celestial records with modern astrophysical understanding. By examining ancient star charts and astronomical observations, the text serves as a critical bridge between pre-modern empirical data and the rigors of modern science. It is widely regarded in academic circles as a foundational resource for scholars interested in the history of East Asian science and the evolution of astronomical documentation.
