Published by Edition Pfefferle in 1983, this collection serves as a significant archival document of the 'Neue Wilde' or 'New Fauves' movement that dominated the German and Swiss art scenes during the early 1980s. This publication captures a pivotal moment when these artists were rejecting the austerity of conceptualism and minimalism in favor of a return to aggressive, subjective, and neo-expressionist figurative painting, characterized by intense color and energetic brushwork.

The book functions as a collective showcase for ten of the most prominent practitioners of this raw, emotive style, including figures like Elvira Bach and Georg Jiri Dokoupil. By aggregating their works and manifestos under the Pfefferle imprint, the volume provided a definitive reference for a generation of artists who sought to revitalize the canvas as a space for visceral, personal, and often transgressive storytelling, earning the movement both critical attention and widespread exposure in contemporary European galleries of the era.
