Holy Spirit and Christian Ethics in the Theology of Klaus Bockmuehl

Published in 2014 by James Clarke & Co, this academic monograph by Annette M. Glaw serves as a systematic exploration of the theological framework established by the German theologian Klaus Bockmuehl. The work was developed from Glaw's doctoral research, aiming to bridge the gap between Bockmuehl's emphasis on the pneumatological foundations of Christian conduct and the broader field of contemporary ethics. It situates Bockmuehl within the tradition of evangelical theology, specifically addressing how the indwelling of the Holy Spirit functions as the primary catalyst for moral decision-making.

The book is a focused piece of scholarship intended for students of systematic theology and Christian ethics. Glaw’s design for the volume is rooted in a rigorous textual analysis of Bockmuehl’s primary German and English writings, seeking to clarify his often complex synthesis of Reformed doctrine and practical theology. Upon its release, the book was received as a definitive resource for understanding Bockmuehl’s late-twentieth-century contributions to the discourse on sanctification and the ethical implications of the charismatic dimension within the Christian life.
