Where it came from
This monograph, authored by Sergio Risaliti and published in 2022, serves as a comprehensive visual survey of the work of Jenny Saville, the British contemporary painter renowned for her monumental, visceral portrayals of the human form. Produced in the context of her ongoing influence in figurative painting, the book examines her departure from traditional portraiture through the lens of her layered, often unsettling explorations of flesh, scale, and materiality.
The volume benefits from a thoughtful design that mirrors the tactile nature of Saville's canvases, balancing high-resolution reproductions with critical essays that contextualize her career since her breakthrough in the 1990s. It was released to coincide with a broader scholarly interest in her practice, receiving positive notice for its archival quality and its ability to capture the monumental presence of her work within the confines of a printed page.
