Kamichama Karin Chu

Kamichama Karin Chu is the sequel series to the popular magical girl manga Kamichama Karin, written and illustrated by the artist known as Koge Donbo. Published in Japan between 2006 and 2008 before being translated for the North American market by Del Rey Manga in 2009, the series follows the protagonist Karin Hanazono as she navigates new supernatural challenges involving time travel and alternate timelines. It maintains the distinct shojo aesthetic for which the author is known, blending fantasy elements with the high-school setting typical of the genre.

Koge Donbo, a pseudonym for the artist Kohge-Donbo, brought a refined, high-detail approach to the character designs in this series, emphasizing ornate costumes and expressive, large-eyed character models that were a hallmark of the mid-2000s manga boom. The reception of the series was largely driven by the established fanbase of the original Kamichama Karin, with critics often noting the series' continuation of themes regarding friendship and destiny. The publication by Del Rey served as part of the publisher's broader effort to expand the availability of contemporary magical girl titles to Western readers during that period.
