Kommentar zum Rolandslied des Pfaffen Konrad

Published in 1972 by Herbert Lang, this scholarly work by Horst Richter serves as an academic commentary on the Rolandslied, the Middle High German adaptation of the French Chanson de Roland attributed to Pfaffen Konrad. Created during a period of renewed interest in medieval Germanic literature, the volume was intended to provide linguistic and thematic analysis for students and researchers of medieval poetry, contextualizing the 12th-century text within its broader European chivalric tradition.

The design and editorial direction reflect the rigorous academic standards of 1970s Swiss philological publishing. Richter’s approach focuses on a systematic breakdown of the text, examining the theological underpinnings and the transformation of the Charlemagne legend as it migrated into German-speaking territories. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a specialized reference tool for university libraries, valued for its commitment to clarifying the archaic syntax and cultural nuances of Konrad's influential work.
