Where it came from
La chanson de Roland, published in 1979 by Nouvelle Optique, represents a distinct contribution to the literary landscape of Quebec during the late twentieth century. As a work authored by Roland Morrisseau, the book functions within the broader intellectual and cultural shifts occurring in Montreal's publishing circles during that era, which sought to amplify francophone voices and explore historical or mythological themes through a modern lens.
The design and production of this edition reflect the aesthetic sensibilities of Nouvelle Optique, a press recognized for its commitment to experimental and culturally significant francophone literature. The book serves as both a textual interpretation of the medieval epic and a reflection of the period's editorial standards in French-Canadian publishing, aimed at scholars and enthusiasts interested in contemporary reimaginings of classical chanson de geste traditions.
