Le Madonne di Vitale

Published in 2010 by Edisai, this volume serves as a scholarly monograph dedicated to the depictions of the Virgin Mary by the fourteenth-century master Vitale da Bologna. It emerged from a broader effort to document the stylistic evolution of the Emilian school of painting, specifically focusing on how Vitale integrated Gothic sensitivity with the burgeoning humanism of the Trecento. The work acts as both a visual compendium and a critical analysis for researchers interested in the transition of Italian sacred art.

The editorial design prioritizes high-fidelity reproductions of frescoes and panel paintings, aiming to capture the distinctive lyrical brushwork and emotional intensity characteristic of Vitale's aesthetic. By gathering these scattered devotional works into a single reference, the collection provides a structured view of the artist’s contribution to the iconography of the Madonna. It has been well-received within academic circles as a necessary reference tool for reconstructing the religious landscape of medieval Bologna.
