Le palais Jacques-Coeur

Le palais Jacques-Cœur, published in 1949 by Desquand, serves as an architectural monograph dedicated to one of the most significant examples of secular Gothic architecture in France. Authored by the architect and historian Paul Gauchery, the work reflects a deep scholarly interest in the residence of the 15th-century merchant Jacques Cœur, located in Bourges. Gauchery, who spent much of his career documenting and restoring historical monuments, aimed to provide a comprehensive visual and technical analysis of the site's intricate stonework, layout, and historical significance during the transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

The publication acts as a testament to the mid-20th-century French commitment to heritage preservation. By documenting the palace's specific architectural details, Gauchery sought to capture the ingenuity of its construction for future generations of historians and architects. The book is well-regarded for its precise illustrations and measured descriptions, functioning as both an academic reference and a tribute to the craftsmanship of the flamboyant Gothic style.
