Les "Vies" des dix orateurs attiques

Published in 2000 by Editions universitaires Fribourg, this volume represents a focused scholarly contribution to the study of the ten Attic orators—a group of classical Greek rhetoricians whose works defined the canon of political and judicial eloquence in antiquity. Jacques Schamp, a respected philologist, crafted this work to provide a critical and analytical perspective on the ancient biographical traditions surrounding these figures, specifically addressing the historiographical complexities and stylistic nuances inherent in the surviving texts.

The design and production of the book reflect the standard rigorous academic aesthetic of Swiss university presses at the turn of the millennium, prioritizing textual clarity and scholarly accessibility. It serves as an essential reference for classicists interested in the reception and preservation of oratorical history, grounded in the context of European university research initiatives that sought to synthesize disparate fragments of ancient biography into a coherent narrative of classical rhetorical education.
