Letters of Mrs. Adams, the Wife of John Adams; Volume 02

This collection originates from the 1840 publication of the correspondence of Abigail Adams, edited by her grandson, Charles Francis Adams. The project served as a foundational effort to preserve the legacy of a woman who was not only the wife of the second president but a significant political voice in her own right. By assembling these private letters, the editor aimed to provide the public with an intimate perspective on the American Revolution and the early republic, positioning Abigail as a primary intellectual witness to history.

The 2023 edition by Creative Media Partners is a modern reprint designed to keep these primary source documents accessible for researchers and historical enthusiasts. While the design is utilitarian, it mirrors the intent of the original 19th-century endeavor to frame Abigail Adams’s observations—often poignant and sharp-witted—as essential American literature. The work remains highly regarded for its candid portrayal of the domestic and political challenges faced by the founders, ensuring the enduring relevance of Adams’s unique epistolary perspective.
