M. Simonis Episcopii ... Opera theologica

Published in 1650 by the renowned Amsterdam printer Johannes Blaeu, this collection of theological works captures the intellectual legacy of Simon Episcopius, a central figure in the Remonstrant movement. Following his prominent role at the Synod of Dort, where his advocacy for Arminian theology led to his exile, these writings represent a deliberate attempt to formalize and defend a liberal Protestant tradition that emphasized individual conscience and a rejection of strict predestinarian orthodoxy.

The physical production reflects the high standards of the Blaeu press, which was globally respected for its editorial rigor and typographical excellence. The design serves as a monumental tribute, intended for a scholarly audience of the seventeenth century. While intended to bridge divides in Dutch Reformed thought, the work was received with fierce contention by orthodox Calvinists, cementing its status as both a foundational document of Remonstrant identity and a testament to the religious volatility of the era.
