Maʼamar ha-shiflut ṿeha-śimḥah

Maʼamar ha-shiflut ṿeha-śimḥah, or The Discourse on Humility and Joy, is a foundational text in the Hasidic tradition authored by Isaac ben Mordecai Epstein, a noted student of the Baal HaTanya. Written as a profound exploration of the psychological and spiritual dimensions of internal life, the work offers guidance on cultivating a balanced soul. This particular 1995 edition serves as a modern reprinting, intended to keep these classical ethical teachings accessible to scholars and contemporary students of Chabad philosophy.

The 1995 publication was issued by an anonymous publisher, a common practice in certain circles of religious printing to prioritize the dissemination of the text itself over institutional branding. By presenting Epstein's intricate theological arguments in a clean, legible format, this edition was designed to facilitate quiet study and communal reading. It stands as a significant bridge for the twentieth-century reader to engage with the contemplative rigor of early nineteenth-century Hasidic thought.
