Lugged Bicycle Frame Construction

Lugged Bicycle Frame Construction was published in 2013 as a specialized technical manual for the niche community of custom bicycle builders. During this era, there was a resurgence of interest in traditional lugged steel frames, which many cycling enthusiasts favored for their aesthetic elegance and the artisanal skill required to produce them. The book was released via CreateSpace, reflecting the common trend of independent makers utilizing self-publishing platforms to distribute highly specific craft knowledge that traditional publishers often overlooked.

The text serves as a detailed procedural guide to the traditional craft of building bicycle frames using lugs—steel sleeves used to join frame tubes. Marc-Andre R. Chimonas structured the book to focus on the technical precision of brazing and frame geometry, aiming to provide a clear, step-by-step methodology for hobbyists and emerging framebuilders. It is widely regarded in the cycling community as a utilitarian instructional resource rather than a design history, valued primarily for its practical utility in the workshop.
