Marquette and Jolliet

Published in 2006 by ABDO Publishing Company, this biography of Marquette and Jolliet was produced as part of the 'Explorers of the New World' series. Designed for a younger audience, the book aims to provide a concise, accessible overview of the 1673 expedition led by Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet to map the Mississippi River. Its creation reflects the educational mission of ABDO to supply school libraries and classrooms with fundamental historical texts that break down complex maritime and exploration history into digestible, illustrated volumes.

The editorial approach centers on clear, straightforward narrative prose complemented by archival-style imagery and maps. While Kristin Petrie is credited as the primary author for this installment, the work is characteristic of the publisher's standardized educational format, which emphasizes readability and chronological clarity. It was received primarily as a resource for curriculum support, offering a reliable entry point for students studying the colonial history of North America and the interactions between European explorers and indigenous peoples.
