Mémoire de M. Le Baron De-Zach sur le degré du méridien mesuré en piemont par le P. Beccaria

Published in 1811 by F. Galletti, this scientific treatise was authored by the Hungarian astronomer Franz Xaver von Zach. It serves as a scholarly analysis and validation of the geodetic measurements performed by Giovanni Battista Beccaria in the Piedmont region during the mid-18th century. The work reflects the Enlightenment-era obsession with mapping the precise figure of the Earth and the rigorous efforts of European astronomers to refine the calculation of the meridian degree.

Von Zach was a prominent figure in the scientific community of his time, serving as an editor of astronomical journals and a champion of observational precision. By re-examining Beccaria's data, von Zach aimed to harmonize earlier findings with contemporary cartographic standards. The text is characteristic of early nineteenth-century scientific publishing, favoring clear, methodical exposition designed for an audience of academics and fellow members of the nascent international astronomical network.
