Michael Williams

Published in 2018 by Gladstone Gallery, this monograph serves as a comprehensive visual survey of the work of American painter Michael Williams. The volume documents his distinct approach to contemporary figurative painting, which often integrates digital tools and computer-generated imagery into the traditional canvas format. By merging inkjet printing with oil paint, Williams explores the tension between technological mediation and the manual craft of painting, situating his work within the broader discourse of digital-era abstraction and surrealism.

The book captures the aesthetic evolution of Williams' practice, highlighting his signature style characterized by layered, chaotic compositions and vivid, often discordant color palettes. As a key document of his career, the publication provides a structured look at the thematic complexity of his gallery exhibitions, reflecting how his work was received by critics as an intelligent commentary on the saturation of modern visual culture. It stands as an essential reference for understanding his place in the landscape of early 21st-century American art.
