Mike Peytons Floating Assets

Published in 2009 by Adlard Coles Nautical, Floating Assets is a definitive collection of cartoons by Mike Peyton, often regarded as the finest cartoonist in the British yachting world. Peyton spent decades contributing to publications like Yachting Monthly, capturing the mishaps, eccentricities, and quintessential frustrations of sailing culture with a sharp, gentle wit. This volume compiles his observational humor, reflecting his own lifelong experience as a sailor and his ability to find absurdity in the daily realities of life on the water.

The illustrations in this collection exemplify Peyton’s signature minimalist style, which prioritizes expressive character work and situational irony over complex detail. His work was highly received within the maritime community for its lack of pretension, portraying sailors not as heroic adventurers, but as relatable, often bumbling figures struggling with unreliable engines, unpredictable weather, and the quirks of boat ownership. The collection serves as an enduring social commentary on the British sailing scene at the turn of the 21st century.
