Крутой маршрут, Часть вторая

Крутой маршрут (Journey into the Whirlwind), Part Two, serves as the harrowing continuation of Eugenia Ginzburg’s autobiographical account of her survival through the Soviet Gulag system. While the first volume details her initial arrest and the onset of her imprisonment during the Great Purge, this second volume delves into the complexities of her life during exile and her eventual liberation. The manuscript was written in secrecy, representing a significant act of literary resistance against the censorship of the Stalinist era, and it remains one of the most vital testimonies of twentieth-century political repression.

This specific edition, published by Arnoldo Mondadori in 1979, emerged within a period of heightened international interest in Ginzburg’s work following the success of her first volume in the West. By the late 1970s, European publishers were instrumental in bringing samizdat literature to a broader audience, treating Ginzburg’s memoirs not only as historical documentation but as a distinct contribution to Russian literature. The design reflects the restrained, scholarly aesthetic typical of Mondadori’s foreign literature series, intended to present the memoir with the gravity and historical weight appropriate for a survivor's narrative.
