Zwischen 30 und 40

Published in 1995 by Ed. Ergon, Zwischen 30 und 40 by Bernd-Udo Rinas emerged during a period of transition in German literature, reflecting the specific sociological anxieties and personal reckonings often associated with the decade preceding one's fortieth year. The work operates within a tradition of contemporary German prose that examines identity, professional stability, and the psychological shift from the optimism of youth to the pragmatism of middle age.

The book design and editorial direction reflect the minimalist, academic-leaning aesthetic favored by small independent publishers in mid-nineties Germany. As a literary contribution, it serves as a snapshot of its time, capturing the cultural atmosphere of post-reunification life in the mid-nineties, characterized by introspective narratives that prioritized character development over grand plot mechanics. Its reception was largely confined to specialized literary circles and regional library collections, where it remains a representative title for students of late 20th-century German literature.
