Paulus als Theologe.

Published in 1906 by E. Runge, Paulus als Theologe represents a significant contribution to the early twentieth-century German Liberal Protestant theological tradition. Paul Feine, a scholar known for his rigorous historical-critical engagement with the New Testament, wrote this work to synthesize the complex theological structures within the Pauline epistles for an academic audience. At the time of its release, the text was situated within a vibrant era of German biblical scholarship that sought to navigate the tension between historical research and theological affirmation.

The design and content of the work reflect the conventions of academic monograph publishing in imperial Germany, emphasizing dense, expository analysis and meticulous textual referencing. Feine aimed to clarify the core logic of Pauline thought, specifically focusing on how the apostle’s theology functioned within the context of early Christian communities. Upon publication, the book was received as a serious scholarly effort, contributing to the broader academic discourse that sought to define the nature of New Testament theology as a distinct discipline separate from systematic dogmatics.
