Practica de los Exercicios espirituales de nuestro padre San Ignacio

Published in Rome in 1675 by the Varese press, this work by Sebastián Izquierdo represents a significant contribution to seventeenth-century Jesuit spirituality. As a prominent scholar and theologian of the Society of Jesus, Izquierdo designed this volume to provide a methodical guide for practitioners of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. The text reflects the rigorous intellectual and devotional climate of the post-Tridentine Church, focusing on the systematic application of meditative prayer.

The publication arrived during a period when the Jesuits were consolidating their influence over European spiritual life through highly structured pedagogical texts. While Izquierdo is remembered primarily for his philosophical work in the 'Cursus Philosophicus', this volume was tailored for the spiritual direction of the faithful. It remains a notable example of seventeenth-century religious printing, reflecting the aesthetic standards of Roman publishers of the era who catered to both ecclesiastical authorities and the scholarly public.
