Real Depravities : the Films of Klaus Kinski

Released in 2016 through CreateSpace, Real Depravities: The Films of Klaus Kinski serves as a comprehensive filmography and critical analysis of the late German actor’s extensive career. Author Troy Howarth, a well-regarded writer in the horror and cult cinema space, compiled this reference guide to navigate Kinski's often chaotic filmography, which spans from mainstream European cinema to obscure B-movies and collaborations with director Werner Herzog. The project arose from the need to synthesize a vast, sometimes inconsistently documented body of work into a readable, chronological guide for dedicated cinephiles.

The book is designed as a utilitarian companion for scholars and fans of exploitation and international art-house film. Howarth adopts a analytical tone, providing synopses and production context for each title, helping the reader differentiate between Kinski’s significant artistic contributions and his more utilitarian genre appearances. It reflects the author's broader research style—meticulously detailing the transition of cult film studies into a more academically grounded pursuit, aimed at preserving the history of actors who operated outside the traditional Hollywood studio system.
