Seelsorge und Tr ostung: Christian Scriver (1629 - 1693); Erbauungsschriftsteller und Seelsorger

Published in 2005 by Spenner, this scholarly work by Holger Müller serves as a biographical and theological exploration of Christian Scriver, a prominent 17th-century German devotional writer and pastor. The text contextualizes Scriver’s life during the turbulent aftermath of the Thirty Years' War, examining his influence on Lutheran piety and his role as a spiritual counselor to his contemporaries.

The book functions as both a historical study and an analysis of Scriver’s literary output, particularly his work 'Gottholds zufällige Andachten'. Müller’s research addresses the intersection of pastoral theology and the Baroque literary tradition, offering insight into how Scriver’s writings shaped the devotional habits of the German-speaking world. It is recognized as a standard academic resource for those studying the history of seventeenth-century Protestant literature.
