The Sitzungsberichte der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, specifically the Mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliche Classe, emerged from the mid-19th-century intellectual climate of the Austrian Empire. Founded in 1847, the Imperial Academy of Sciences in Vienna established this publication series to serve as a formal repository for the findings of its members, mirroring the efforts of other European scientific societies to standardize the dissemination of academic research.
