Slovo o polku Igoreve. Perevod s drevnerusskogo i kommentariĭ V. V. Medvedeva

The Tale of Igor's Campaign, or Slovo o polku Igoreve, stands as the most celebrated work of Old Russian literature, chronicling the ill-fated 1185 expedition of Prince Igor Svyatoslavich against the Polovtsians. This particular 2003 edition, published by Mashteks, serves as a modern pedagogical and scholarly contribution to the long history of the text’s transmission, which dates back to its discovery in the late 18th century and its subsequent role in defining Slavic identity.

The translation and extensive commentary provided by V. V. Medvedev aim to make the archaic, lyrical prose accessible to a contemporary Russian-speaking audience while maintaining the rhythmic integrity of the original epic. By situating the narrative within its historical and linguistic context, this edition functions both as a literary record and a bridge between medieval cultural heritage and modern academic interpretation.
