Summary of Jack Daniels's Daniels' Running Formula

This publication serves as a concise summary and companion guide to the seminal work by Dr. Jack Daniels, widely regarded as one of the most influential coaches in the history of distance running. The original core text, Daniels' Running Formula, introduced the VDOT system, a methodology that uses a runner's performance data to calculate precise training intensities. It emerged from decades of exercise physiology research and Daniels' practical experience working with elite athletes and collegiate teams, aiming to provide a scientifically grounded framework for improving aerobic capacity.

The 2022 summary published by IRB Media is designed as an accessible digest for runners seeking to distill complex physiological principles into actionable practice. Like many summary-style editions in the contemporary publishing market, it is intended to distill the dense technical data and periodization schedules of the original text into a more digestible format for casual or busy athletes. While the original book is a staple in the running community, these supplemental summaries are generally received as study aids rather than primary training manuals.
