The Anna Karenina Fix

The Anna Karenina Fix was written by journalist and critic Viv Groskop and published in 2017. The book emerged from Groskop's longstanding fascination with Russian literature, specifically exploring how classic works by authors such as Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov offer profound insights into contemporary life, personal resilience, and mental well-being. It serves as a modern, accessible guide intended to bridge the gap between 19th-century canonical literature and the practical problems of the 21st century.

Groskop designed the text as a series of essays that treat Russian novels as therapeutic tools, emphasizing the emotional intelligence embedded in these narratives. The work was generally received as a lighthearted yet insightful departure from academic literary criticism, praised for its conversational tone and its ability to demystify intimidating classics for a popular audience. By framing complex themes like existential dread and social expectation through the lens of iconic characters, Groskop aimed to show that literature remains a vital companion for navigating daily human struggles.
