Where it came from
The Doll Collection is a 2015 anthology curated by the renowned editor Ellen Datlow and published by Tor Books. Known for her prolific work in horror and dark fantasy, Datlow commissioned these seventeen original stories to explore the unsettling and multifaceted nature of dolls. The collection was designed to move beyond simple tropes of haunted playthings, inviting authors to delve into the psychological, uncanny, and often melancholic resonance that dolls hold within the human experience.
The anthology features contributions from distinguished authors such as Joyce Carol Oates, Seanan McGuire, and Ramsey Campbell. The stories were intended to showcase diverse interpretations of the doll motif, ranging from the gothic to the surreal. Upon its release, the volume was well-received by critics for its thematic cohesion and the high caliber of its contributors, solidifying its place as a standout entry in Datlow's long history of genre-defining short fiction anthologies.
