The Official Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Published in 1998, this guide serves as a comprehensive companion to the enduring Carmen Sandiego multimedia franchise, which originated with the 1985 educational video game created by Brøderbund. The book was authored by Rusel DeMaria, a prolific writer in the gaming industry known for his deep technical knowledge and extensive history of documenting software for players. During the 1990s, the brand enjoyed peak cultural saturation, bolstered by popular television game shows and animated series that turned the globe-trotting thief into an iconic figure of children's edutainment.

The guide was designed to provide players with the geographical and historical trivia necessary to track down Carmen and her V.I.L.E. henchmen across international borders. DeMaria’s approach focused on balancing the instructional needs of the game with the whimsical, mystery-solving atmosphere that defined the franchise. Upon release, such strategy guides were standard artifacts of the pre-internet gaming era, valued by younger audiences as essential tools for mastering the game’s complex riddle mechanics while reinforcing the educational geography lessons central to the game's mission.
