Vankimielisairaalan historiikki =

Published in 1979 by the Prison Administration Department of the Finnish Ministry of Justice, Vankimielisairaalan historiikki serves as a formal historical account of the Turku Prison Hospital. This volume was commissioned to document the evolution, administrative shifts, and institutional development of the facility, which functioned as a specialized psychiatric unit for inmates. It provides a detailed look at the intersection of the Finnish penal system and psychiatric care during the twentieth century, reflecting the bureaucratic and medical standards of the era.

The text was compiled by Mauri Ranta, who drew upon internal archives and official records to structure the narrative. The design and presentation follow the sober, utilitarian aesthetic typical of Finnish governmental publications from the late 1970s. While intended primarily as an internal reference and a historical record for the Ministry of Justice, the book remains a significant resource for researchers interested in the history of institutional care, forensic psychiatry, and the sociopolitical climate of the Finnish correctional system.
