Voordat ik het vergeet; Als de dag van gisteren; Hun lach klinkt van zo ver

Meyer Sluyser, a Dutch journalist and broadcaster associated with Het Parool, published these collections of personal anecdotes and reflections in the early 1960s. These works originate from a period where Sluyser was highly regarded for his ability to capture the vanishing social history of the Jewish community in Amsterdam before the Second World War. The writings serve as both a memoir and a cultural record of a world irrevocably altered by the Holocaust.

The design and tone of the collection reflect a journalistic approach to memory, aiming to evoke the atmosphere of the 'Jodenbuurt' through vivid, oral-style storytelling. Published by the newspaper he contributed to, these books were received as poignant literary contributions to Dutch post-war history. Sluyser’s work is noted for its melancholic and nostalgic voice, successfully preserving the vernacular and social fabric of a lost generation for a contemporary audience.
