Wicked Loving Lies:(Brandon-Morgan#6)

Wicked Loving Lies, published in 1976, serves as the sixth installment in Rosemary Rogers’ influential Brandon-Morgan saga. During the mid-1970s, Rogers was a central figure in the transformation of the historical romance genre, shifting it toward the more explicit, plot-driven style that defined the bodice-ripper era. This particular edition, released by Futura, exemplifies the mass-market paperback aesthetic that prioritized dramatic, romanticized cover art designed to catch the eye of readers browsing busy newsstands and bookstores.

The book follows the tumultuous romantic escapades characteristic of the series, balancing historical settings with high-stakes melodrama. Rogers was widely credited with helping to establish the conventions of the modern romance novel, focusing on adventurous heroines and sweeping, often complicated, relationships. While literary critics of the time frequently dismissed the genre, works like those in the Brandon-Morgan series achieved significant commercial success and helped solidify the economic foundation for the romance publishing boom that followed throughout the late twentieth century.
