Will Grayson, Will Grayson

Will Grayson, Will Grayson was published in 2009 as a unique collaborative experiment in young adult literature. It was written by John Green and David Levithan, who took turns writing chapters for two different characters—both named Will Grayson—whose lives intersect in a Chicago high school. The concept was born from a desire to explore identity and coincidence through two distinct narrative voices, with Green focusing on the emotionally guarded Will and Levithan on the more volatile, depressive Will.

The book is noted for its exploration of queer identity and the complexities of teenage friendship. It was met with positive critical reception for its inventive structure and the genuine chemistry between the two protagonists. The design reflects the dual-narrative approach, often utilizing alternating font styles or layouts in various editions to distinguish between the two voices, cementing its reputation as a significant contemporary work in the genre of collaborative fiction.
