Where it came from
Published in 1989 by YPT Educational Services, this script was created to accompany the stage adaptation of Mordecai Richler's beloved children's book, Jacob Two-Two and the Dinosaur. The Young People's Theatre in Toronto commissioned the adaptation as part of their long-standing commitment to professional theater for young audiences, aiming to bring the whimsical and rebellious spirit of Richler’s protagonist to a live setting.
The adaptation process sought to distill the narrative complexities of Richler's original prose into an engaging, performable script suited for educational contexts. While Richler provided the literary foundation, the production itself was a collaborative effort involving directors and designers tasked with visualizing the giant, playful dinosaur. The work was received as a charming extension of the Jacob Two-Two canon, reflecting the cultural landscape of late 1980s Canadian children's literature.
