This exhibition catalog was produced in 1996 to accompany a touring retrospective featuring drawings from the Kaiser Wilhelm Museum Krefeld and the renowned private collection of Helga and Walther Lauffs. The exhibition was hosted at the Erholungshaus in Leverkusen, the Kunsthalle Nürnberg, and the Krefeld museums Haus Lange and Haus Esters. It served to document the evolution of twentieth-century drawing practices, highlighting works that bridged the gap between post-war European modernism and contemporary conceptual movements.

Curated and authored by Julian Heynen, the publication functions as a scholarly survey of the Lauffs collection, which is internationally recognized for its focus on Minimal, Conceptual, and Pop Art. Heynen’s text provides critical context for the chosen works, analyzing the aesthetic intent behind the drawings and their relationship to the broader artistic movements of the mid-to-late twentieth century. The book is valued by researchers and collectors for its documentation of the Lauffs’ specific eye for acquisitions during a pivotal era in modern art history.
